Does your child suffer from recurrent earaches, allergies, digestive difficulties, skin eruptions, growing pains, or bedwetting? Does he/she have behavioral problems, learning difficulties, or a short attention span’? What about temper tantrums, panic attacks, fears, anxieties, obsessions, or recurrent nightmares’? Is your baby experiencing colic, feeding problems, or diaper rash? Does he/she get every cold or flu that’s going around’? Are you looking for a natural way to strengthen your child’s health and vitality, and bring him or her back into balance’? If so homeopathy may be for you.
What is homeopathy?
Homeopathy is a scientific system of healing, which gently assists the natural tendency of the body to heal itself It was developed over 200 years ago and has become one of the most popular natural therapeutic systems in the world.
Homeopathic remedies are made from natural substances. Through a special method of preparation, the remedies are diluted sufficiently to eliminate all toxic effects. They do not cause allergic reactions, and you cannot become addicted to them. There are over 2000 different homeopathic remedies available today.
How does homeopathy work?
The body’s own healing power is very great, and given adequate rest and nourishment, many complaints heal themselves. However, sometimes the healing process is faulty, blocked or slow. This is when a well-selected homeopathic remedy can act as a stimulus to set the body’s own curative powers into motion.
Remedies are chosen according to the Law of Similars (like cures like). This means that a substance that produces symptoms when given in large doses to a healthy person can restore health if given in very small doses to a person with similar symptoms. For example, a homeopathic remedy made from an onion may be indicated for someone with watery eyes, because the onion itself produces this symptom in many people.
Classical homeopathy recognizes that all symptoms of ill health are expressions of disharmony within the whole person. Therefore your homeopath will not give a remedy for a single symptom, nor for the disease itself Rather, he/she will look for one remedy that covers all your child’s symptoms as well as his/ her personality and temperament.
What is treatment like?
Homeopathic treatment is highly individualized. For an initial consultation, your homeopath will usually spend 1-2 hours with you and your child in order to find out all about him/her. Both the child (if old enough to talk) and the attending parent will be asked questions about the child’s symptoms, food preferences, sleep habits, personality, stresses, medical records, family health history. etc.
When the homeopath has sufficient information to understand your child, he/she will send you a remedy especially tailored for him/her. You will be asked to observe any changes in your child’s symptoms in order to report them at your next visit, so the homeopath can monitor his/her progress.
Can my child benefit?
Homeopathy can be beneficial for people of any age, from infants to seniors. Children often respond fairly quickly, because they do not have many years of sickness to work through. Homeopathy can be of great benefit for the healthy development of children, helping to strengthen their vitality, to reduce their underlying susceptibility, and to promote long-term health. Contact your homeopath to see what homeopathy can do for you and your child.
