Network Spinal Analysis and Your Health
The nervous system with its multi-network of nerves, the spine, and the brain is recognized as the master control centre of all our functions. Whenever there is interference in this system, our health is affected. Interference can exist in the form of chemical toxins, emotional stresses, physical trauma from accidents, and tension that comes along with our personal fears and anxieties. Getting the body to recognize and release interference at the neurological level is the basis of Network Spinal Analysis.
Developed in 1984 by Dr. Donald Epstein from Colorado, N.S.A. draws its principles and techniques from chiropractic, quantum mechanics, neuroanatomy, and psychoneuroimmunology. Its light contact entrainment techniques with phasing patterns are being offered to chiropractors all over the world.
At bi-monthly lectures on Network Spinal Analysis, Dr. Posa explains the techniques he uses to help the body heal and recover from pain and illness as a result of accidents, falls, or stress that have accumulated over the years. Sometimes he uses a rolled up towel to demonstrate the tension held in the spine. Working at the tips of the towel, like working at the tail and neck end of your spine is the way to effectively unravel that tension.
Holding up a model of the spine he shows what a wave looks like and explains that these waves can be so subtle they are hardly felt or they can be more pronounced and visible. Either way they are the clearing agents and work along with the breath to free up the system. Thinking clearly and being able to focus has a lot to do with proper interaction between brain and nerves but tension around the neck can impede important chemical messages to the immune system, the digestive system, and organs such as the lungs and heart
As The Spine Waves
One of the most important phenomena in Network Spinal Analysis is the spinal wave. A very gentle and light contact by a Network Chiropractor, entrains the spine to oscillate, that is, to vibrate or rock gently on its own. The brain becomes more aware of stuck parts along the spine and the body begins the process of looking in on itself: the nervous system is actually able to become self-reflective. As stuck areas of interference are noticed by the brain, the spine goes through a respiratory wave, an action that communicates with the brain and initiates a clearing of interference.
In some people the waves are very subtle and in others they are more pronounced but in all cases they are a natural part of the healing process. At times the body might spontaneously assist in the “shedding” of this stored tension with large muscles movements, so that you may find yourself wanting to stretch or move your arms or legs. You may notice the breath getting deeper as you release emotional tension.
Unprocessed Stored Tension
Our bodies contain patterns of tension from unrecovered physical and emotional experiences. This tension remains in the nervous system and interferes with essential functions such as the immune system, flexibility in joints and muscles, and memory and concentration, You can liken the nervous system to a river that is flowing and full of life force and vital information for the body. If the river is blocked, the life force becomes minimal and the water becomes stagnant. What Network Spinal Analysis does is to assist in entraining the body to release the “rocks” in the river by the action of oscillating vertebrae and respiratory waves. This results in less interference between the brain and the spine, and that means better communication, better function, more vitality, more health.
Feeling The Difference:
Everyone starts off with an initial consultation and session that lasts about an hour to an hour and a half. Your individual spinal characteristics would be examined as well as areas that have difficulty in flexibility or that are painful. You would also discuss your history, any accidents or concerns. Then you would experience a session of N.S.A. lying face down on a chiropractic table. At times you might be asked to sit up, lie on your back or your side.
One patient noticed that before she came in she could not move her neck all the way to the right because of an old car accident and after only a few sessions it had loosened up tremendously. Not only did her body feel better, but she was coping better at home and at work, and was generally a lot happier.
A tight musculature is visibly softer after a session, an indication that there is more openness and energy flow to that area. A feeling of lightness, flexibility and a sense of peacefulness are also common. Relief and improvement have been noted with a wide range of symptoms, from allergies, asthma, fibro myalgia, hypertension, lower back pain, stiff joints, sciatica to chronic migraines and depression. But the emphasis is not on the symptoms because our bodies contain patterns of tension or blocks that are behind these symptoms. Through spinal intelligence, that is, the ability of our spine and nervous system to learn inner awareness of what's not right with us, we can clear the interference and drastically improve our health.
Going Further and Going Deeper
With every session of Network Spinal Analysis the spine remembers what it has done and is able to do more and more clearing. Eventually patients are able to clear out tension outside of the office on their own. Their spines have acquired a valuable and life enhancing skill that will bring relief to pain, improve flexibility in muscles and joints, boost the immune system, improve circulation and restore energy.
A substantial research study was carried out to evaluate the results of 2, 818 patients who had undergone N.S.A. for at least three months. Conducted by Dr. Robert Blanks, Department of Anatomy and Neurobiology,University of California, Irvine, the research showed that 95% of respondents reported that their expectations had been met, and 99% reported that they would continue care. In the category of life enjoyment, 69% noted significant improvements and in the wellness category 76% noted marked improvement.
In summary, the majority of patients received benefits both physically and emotionally, as well as benefits to lifestyle.
Long Term Gain
Dr. Anthony Posa, who has been practising Network Spinal Analysis for ten years, points out,
“At the onset, you will be shedding layers of stress-hardened areas. Later on, your spine becomes more advanced in its ability to go deeper into chronic tension patterns. What all this means to the patient is improved spinal flexibility, self-corrected spinal subluxations, decreased pain, improved physical and mental vitality, healing of old wounds, and improved overall health. From what we see here in our clinic and from what case studies have shown, patients who undergo N.S.A. have tension patterns that permanently go away. Because the body is actively involved in its own healing, there are greater results. N.S.A. empowers the patients. They also become more aware of how the stress that they have acquired, be it chemical, physical, or trauma-based, is linked to how they are experiencing life; and at some point as their tension decreases, they make changes for themselves."
As for myself, I can say my spine and I are partners in dealing with daily stress. I’ve worked through a lot of my history in the level one shedding process with N.S.A. That includes a twice broken tail bone and a change in career. My constant bouts of bronchial and bladder infections have virtually disappeared and that means less dependancy on antibiotics. And after five years I still notice the improvements to my posture, my health and my outlook on life.
