Hi Anatoliy

I am looking to send a request for a web page - say espn.com, and save the html to a file for data extraction. What is the best way to handle this?

What about HTTPS? Can WinInet handle this?

Thanks!

David

A simple way is to use URLDownloadToCacheFile call, or its cousin, URLDownloadToFile. Search "RemoteToLocal" in this reference for an example. This API works with HTTP and HTTPS.

Another interesting option is using the MSXML2.ServerXMLHTTP object.

And of course, a solution can be based on each of the API libraries, WinINet, WinHTTP and WinSock. You can find corresponding examples here.
